What is the Medicare Annual Election Period, or “AEP”?

Every year, from October 15 through December 7, you have an opportunity to revisit your plan(s) and determine if your current, renewing coverage continues to meet your needs.
This is the Annual Election Period, also know as “AEP”. It’s a perfect time to schedule an appointment with your insurance agent to review both your current coverage and discuss alternate plan options available in your area.
With industry-wide changes to Part D Prescription Drug Plans in effect for 2025, take time to learn about updates to your coverage and compare plans to ensure you have a plan that meets your prescription needs and budget.
During AEP you can make any of the following changes:
- Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan
- Join a new Medicare Advantage Plan OR PDP
- Switch from a Medicare Advantage Plan to Original Medicare (with or without a PDP)
