Where will I get prescriptions filled if my preferred pharmacy closes?
In recent news we’ve learned that most Rite Aid Stores in Ohio and Michigan are soon closing. Rite Aid pharmacy customers should contact your pharmacy and confirm if they are a location that will be closing.
No action is necessary if the pharmacy they are transferring your prescriptions to is acceptable.
You have the option to transfer your prescriptions to another pharmacy of your choice prior to the current pharmacy closing. After the closure or after you initiate a transfer, you can begin picking up your prescriptions at the new location.
Transferring your prescriptions to a different pharmacy is completely acceptable throughout the year.
However, it’s important to note that pharmacies fall under a preferred, standard, or out-of-network status with insurance carriers. It’s always in your best interest to check with your agent to verify the status of a new pharmacy on your current plan. The closure of your preferred pharmacy likely NOT trigger a Special Election Period (SEP). SEP’s allow you to change your coverage to suit a pharmacy choice.
That is the case with the Rite Aid closures, which are a result of a business decision by Rite Aid.
These Rite Aid closures do NOT create an SEP.
Your agent will be able to check your current plan and show you which pharmacies are preferred, standard or out of network.
A reminder that the Annual Election Period (AEP) is coming soon.
With changes to Part D Prescription Drug plans this year, because of the Inflation Reduction Act, a plan review is more important than ever during AEP. We encourage you to contact your current agent, or if you are looking for one in your area, please contact Lori Good at Beck Insurance Agency. We are more than happy to help and look over your current plan and talk about the options you have.
Any changes need to be completed between October 15 through December 7 for 2025.
Beck Insurance Agency looks forward to helping you review your plan choices and providing you with the options available.
