What if it’s time to enroll in Medicare but I am already on Medicaid?
Medicaid is a federal and state funded program that helps with medical costs for those who qualify due to limited income and resources. Medicaid assists with benefits not normally covered by Medicare. If you are currently on Medicaid and it’s time to enroll into Medicare, always notify the agent that you are also on Medicaid.
This will help us determine what plans are best for you. Most likely, you will be “dual eligible“. You can still choose what plan it best for you, and it doesn’t limit your choices. You will still be able to chose between a Medicare Supplement or a Medicare Advantage Plan. If you have full Medicaid with Medicare, you will get your Part D Drug Coverage through Medicare and will receive additional support to pay for the Part D premiums.
When being treated, Medicare will determine what and how much they will cover, then Medicaid will cover the rest.
