A life saving tip for young drivers that they don’t teach in drivers education.
Your teenager just got her driving permit. She’s excited to drive to school with you today and is already dressed and ready to go.
Her anticipation is getting annoying so you tell her to go ahead and start her car so it warms up. In the meantime you finish getting ready for work.
Five minutes later you are ready, grab your stuff and head out to the garage.
To your horror you find your daughter sitting in her running car, playing with her phone, garage door CLOSED. Completely unaware of the danger.
She is completely caught off guard and confused by your frantic outburst. She didn’t know.
For an experienced adult it sounds silly but we need to stop assuming our kids know this stuff. But looking back, they don’t teach this in drivers education. I’m not sure they “teach” it anywhere really, so it’s up to us as parents.
This time, we were fortunate. We walked in before the situation became a tragedy. But not every scenario will turn out that way.
Please teach your young drivers the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning before it’s too late.
